Movie Review: Lone Survivor

Tuesday, June 17, 2014
It's been a while since i have done a movie review. Honest to God, there just have not been enough good movies here lately. Late one night last week, I happened to see a movie with Mark Wahlberg. I am the kind of girl who does love a good action movie so I put it on. It wasn't long before Scott realized what I was watching and came join me. Scott was quick to let me know that  Lone Survivor tells the true story of a 2005 Navy SEAL mission in Afghanistan gone terribly wrong. In the beginning of the film there is actual Navy Seal Training footage. For a second there, I thought I might  be watching some kind of documentary. I should say that this is not a movie for children in anyway. There is a ton of brutal, bloody violence, with guns, shooting, open wounds, and many deaths. So make sure the kids are in bed if you decide to watch this. You have to know that this is a war movie and there is a ton of violence.

From the beginning of the movie when Mark Wahlberg comes into play with the other characters, you don't learn much about them except you realize how they are not just soldiers in the same unit, they are family. I could almost feel the bond inside myself watching. These boys will die for each other in any circumstance where the possibility of death is high.

They soon find the mission they are sent on is compromised. They are spotted by goat hearders of sorts. They had to decide what to do. Kill them which breaks many rules of war, tie them up...which is basically the same or let them go and try to get out of there.

Needless to say the decision they made had some very fatal consequences. You have to remember wars are never easy....trying to second guess what those men had to do is just wrong because we were not there. It showed in full detail the result of war. Good men ( and women ) die fighting for our country. The brotherhood never waivers and while all but one were killed...they died together in the most honorable way possible. I don't think many of us realize how real it is for these soldiers. The Lone Survivor is found by local villagers that end up saving his life.

Here's the trailer.

Its a beautiful tribute to the men lost and to the villagers to actually helped. At the end of the movie they explain by law if a person ends up in their village hurt or in need of help, it is their job to protect them. Plain and simple. They didn't want the radicals in their community either. They were kind loving people who helped one of our soldiers make it back home.

I think that we owe to our soldiers to hold our eyes open to see what they actually go through. These were not just soldiers, they were the elite and put the best fight of their lives. I am giving this movie..

for the story it tells...the impact on me was really strong.  Its a very powerful film and an important reminder of what really happens when we send men and women off to war. I think it was really sad that through out the movie they were showing that their phones and communication equipment was not working. One would think we could handle that easily but my husband reminded me that in the hills of Afghanistan, any reception is hard to get. We spend a lot of money on defense..maybe some should go towards better equipment. I guess that is a different discussion for a different time.

I hope maybe between now and the 4th of July you take a little time to watch this movie. I was heart broken yet proud when watching and I think we owe it to them to see what they are going through for us. Don't miss this movie.

Monday Movie Review: The Family

Monday, January 20, 2014

I know its getting later in the night but I still wanted to get this review up! I recently watched this movie and thought it would be great to review being I thought I would hate it when I saw the previews.

Here's what the movie is about.

In the off-beat action comedy "The Family," a mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield (Tommy Lee Jones) to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni (Robert DeNiro), his wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer) and their children Belle (Dianna Agron) and Warren (John D'Leo) can't help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the "family" way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down. Chaos ensues as old scores are settled in the unlikeliest of settings in this darkly funny film by Luc Besson (Taken, Transporter). (c) Relativity Media

Scott and I sat back to watch this movie and I was shocked at how much we laughed through it. I found it kinda goofy at parts but over all, it was pretty funny. Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer were amazing together. I loved their chemistry. I have been loving a lot of Robert DeNiro's movies here lately. I love him being funny and charming. And Michele Pfeiffer is so cute.. I love her in this movie. The kids were ok.. I grew to like them. We truly had a bunch of laughs watching this movie! The story line is so so but the actors pull it off really good.

Here's the trailer...

I am giving this movie

because it was better than I expected. It was a great movie for a cold night in. I recommend it to everyone. The cast pulls off this silly violence kind of movie. And I think Robert DeNiro and Michele Pfeiffer do a great job bringing this movie along. I don't think its going to win any awards or anything but it is pretty entertaining.

Have a great night!

Monday Movie Review: Prisoners

Monday, December 30, 2013

Hello friends! I hope you are having a wonderful night. I am back tonight with a very overdue Movie Review. I have been so busy these past few months that I have not done a movie review in some time. I am totally changing things and starting movie reviews back up. So tonight I am going to talk to you about the movie

Here's a little about the movie:

PRISONERS, from Oscar (R)-nominated director Denis Villeneuve, stars Oscar (R) nominees Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal in a story that poses the question: How far would you go to protect your child? Keller Dover (Jackman) is facing every parent's worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect's release. Knowing his child's life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. But just how far will this desperate father go to protect his family? (c) WB

I knew before hitting purchase that this would be a difficult movie to watch. I have young children and I can not imagine the pain that would come from a missing child. However, I thought that watching this movie, I could maybe learn something that could help protect my family. I know that's a stretch for a movie.. but I was hoping. I think this movie will touch any parent who has turned around to not see them. It can happen to us in a second and this movie really made that point.

I think the performance from Hugh Jackman is the most emotional part he has ever done. I could literally feel his pain through out this movie. This movie totally kept me on the edge of my seat.. and Scott too.We both were sucked into the movie in the first 10 minutes. The intensity from Hugh Jackman alone is Oscar worthy. This movie has tons of twists and turns and does not disappoint.

I also think Jake Gyllenhaal is sensational, he gives a memorable and gripping performance that is one of his best yet. I was shocked at how much I liked him in this movie.

Maria Bello and Viola Davis are excellent. They don't huge parts but they are just as gripping mourning for their kidnapped daughters. Terrance Howard is terrific. I totally loved his performance too. Amazing Actors.

I am giving this movie

and not 5 because I didn't like the ending which still haunts me days after watching the movie.

Here's the trailer:

This one one of 2013's best pictures. Don't miss it.

Movie Review : Django

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Hi friends!

There have been so many good movies here lately that I am just getting around to reviewing this movie. So I know by now you all have heard about Django. People went nuts over it in good and bad ways which made me want to see what the fuss is all about. I like Quentin Tarantino movies anyway and I really like Jamie Fox.

So incase you haven't heard about it, here is what the movie is about.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. -- (C) Weinstein

Monday Movie Review: Mary & Martha

Monday, April 22, 2013
Happy Monday! So today in trying to decide which movie I was going to review.. it was a toss up between Mary and Martha and Django. While I have LOTS to say about Django...I am choosing to take a few minutes to go over Mary and Martha and next week we will go over Django!

I watched it for the first time late last night. I seriously stayed up till 330am to watch this. I found it incredibly touching and inspiring.

Monday Movie Review : The Master

Monday, April 15, 2013

Happy Monday Friends! Time for your Monday Movie Review!

I watched this movie a while ago and just now getting around to reviewing it..but I had to do a post because this was a very profound movie..

Here's what it is about...

A striking portrait of drifters and seekers in post World War II America, Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master unfolds the journey of a Naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future - until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman). -- (C) Weinstein

You would have to live under a rock if you haven't heard of this movie. Its suppose to be loosely based on Scientology but there is never any mention of it in the movie. With Philip Seymour Hoffman in the lead, The Master brought in over $700,000 in just five theaters in New York and Los Angeles. The per-screen average of $145,949, is a new record for a speciality film opening in limited release.

When I watched this movie I was shocked at how good it was. I think all the actors did an amazing job with their characters. I particularly liked Amy Adams. I thought she was amazing. Joaquin Phoenix was brilliant as was Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Pretty much the story line is Freddie ( played by Joaquin Phoenix ) was a total mess coming out of the Second World War. He would drink anything in front of him including paint thinner. He's very self destructive.. fighting, masturbating in the ocean in front of this fellow sailors.. he was just a mess.

He finds himself meeting a new group of people who claim they can help him. So he starts learning their way of life.. including reading the core books, attending lectures.. just absorbing himself in the process. During this time you can see how a new religion is formed. It was kinda weird though.. They did the auditing thing.. with all the crazy questions.. I wonder if they really believe God cares about stuff??? It was interesting to watch none the less.

Monday Movie Review : Lincoln

Monday, April 8, 2013

I feel like I am running behind with so many movie review.. Be that as it may, I am going to be talking to you tonight about the Steven Spielberg Lincoln movie. I know almost everyone on the planet has heard of this movie.. it was big during award season. But in case you didn't hear about it.. here's what the movie is about..

In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come. -- (C) Walt Disney

Time for another Movie Review! I have been watching a lot of movies lately and it wasn't so easy to figure out which one to review tonight.. but I had to go with

The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with acclaimed director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, is a bold, theatrical new vision of the epic story of love, adapted from Leo Tolstoy's timeless novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard. The story powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness and marriage, change comes to all around her. -- (C) Focus

From the writer of Training Day, End of Watch is a riveting action thriller that puts audiences at the center of the chase like never before. I am so behind on movie reviews..but tonight I would like to take a few minutes to talk to you about Zero Dark Thirty. I am sure many of you have heard of this movie.. who hasn't right?

Belated Monday Movie Review: Carnage

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

I know this is not a new movie.. but recently I watched it for the first time and being Jodi Foster had one of the BEST SPEECHES at the Globes... I thought what a better time to review this movie.

Monday Movie Review: Jack Reacher

Monday, January 7, 2013

So Scott and I went to the movies on our Date Night. I wasn't too thrilled to go see it.. even though I generally like Tom Cruise movies. I am still wanting to see Flight but we can't find it playing anywhere.. So this was husbys pick..

Belated Monday Movie Review : Hope Springs

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

I am trying to keep up with this as much as possible.. so even though it's late.. here's Monday's Movie Review.

I recently sat down and watched this movie. I waited for it to come out to redbox so I could watch it pretty cheap!

Here's what the movie is about..

Monday Movie Review : Savages

Monday, November 19, 2012
Thankfully things have slowed down a little around here and I have had some time to enjoy some great movies.. I will probably do another review come Wednesday night or Thursday... while we are all laying around being full from Thanksgiving!

But today, I am going to go over..

Savages.

Monday Movie Review : Deadfall

Monday, November 12, 2012

Hellooo!! Happy Monday! I have been really busy the past couple of weeks and I am so happy to have the time tonight to go over one of the movies I recently watched...

Here's what the movie is about..

A thriller that follows two siblings who decide to fend for themselves in the wake of a botched casino heist, and their unlikely reunion during another family's Thanksgiving celebration. That's it in a nut shell!

Ok.. for some strange reason I love any movie that has a lot of snow in it. I have no idea why because I am a totally tropical girl but whatever.. I thought that the trailer made this worthy of watching.

So this movie is ok.. I have read a lot of reviews saying how horrible it is but for me it wasn't terribly bad but it wasn't great either. I love Olivia Wilde and Eric Bana is pretty good too. Their relationship seems pretty screwed up and they end up in a farm house.. which is where Sissy Spacek comes in. And believe me, she does much better in The Help but she was still rather charming in this movie too.

Well this movie had enough action and enough of a plot to keep me watching but it wouldn't be something I would pay big money to see. Use the redbox to get this one. I think both of their accents could have used a little more practice too.

So I am giving this only

because it fell kinda short. I think Charlie Hunnam is kinda a low budget Channing Tatum.. He was ok.. but again not too interesting. I guess the interesting part is how the characters start to come together in the end.

Wish it would have been a little better but it was good enough to sit through!

Have you seen this yet? Do you agree with my review? Let me know!

xoxo

Monday Movie Reivew : Blast from the Past → The Others ←

Monday, October 29, 2012
I normally don't watch scary movies because they will in fact give me bad dreams. But since it is Halloween season a lot of old movies are playing on tv. So I decided to finally watch this movie..

Here's a little bit about it..

Spanish filmmaker Alejandro Amenabar's first English-language production is a creepy period ghost story that continues in the vein of his earlier art house hit Open Your Eyes (1997). Nicole Kidman stars as Grace, a devoutly religious mother of two ailing children who has moved with her family to a mansion on the English coast while awaiting her husband's return from World War II, though he has been declared missing. Their children, Anne (Alakina Mann) and Nicholas (James Bentley), both suffer from a rare photosensitivity disease that renders them extremely vulnerable to sunlight, prompting Grace's rule of having only one door open in the house at a time. When Anne begins claiming to see ghosts, Grace at first believes her newly arrived family of eccentric servants to be responsible, but chilling events and visions soon lead her to believe that something supernatural is indeed going on. The Others was released only a few months prior to Vanilla Sky (2001), the American remake of Alejandro's Open Your Eyes (1997), ironically starring Kidman's then-estranged husband Tom Cruise. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Monday Movie Review : What To Expect When You're Expecting

Monday, October 1, 2012

A few weeks ago.. I decided to sit back and watch this movie. To be honest, I think Jennifer Lopez is as cute as she can be.. So I decided to watch this against my better judgement..

Here's what the movie is about..

Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules and dance show star Evan find that their high-octane celebrity lives don't stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy's husband, Gary, struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad, who's expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler. Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn't so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a "dudes" support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. And rival food truck chefs Rosie and Marco's surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date? -- (C) Lionsgate

Well to put it blunty.. I didn't like this movie at all.. It just wasn't my thing. The cast is big with Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Dennis Quaid among others. The movie runs too long at nearly two hours, and really there is so much filler, that you almost lose interest. At least for me, I found it just too dull and corny to my liking.

I think if you could watch this like you reading the book how-to bestseller by Heidi Murkoff...by skipping the unnecessary bits and diving into the important stuff... then it would be a little more tolerable. I did zip through this movie in the parts that I just couldn't deal with. I think that this movie is like... Valentines Day or News Year Eve.. where they have a huge cast.. basically to cover how bad the script actually is.. These kind of movies are not working for me. I wish they would put more time in the writing than how many celebrities they can get to make an appearance.

I also didn't like the dads " gang " that met up in the park. I know tons of young dads and none of them do that..hummmmm.. anyway.. here's the trailer..

I am giving this movie

because I could barely get to the end without turning it off. Its just not good. I don't care how you dress it up with big screen actors.. if the writing sucks.. its over. I would seriously go back and read this

book cover to cover before having to watch that movie again.

No thank you!

Its 11:55 so I know this is a LATE Monday Movie Review.. sorry!! I have been feeling pretty under the weather today but I am happy to tell you guys.. you might want to get this at the redbox.. There is no sense in paying more than a $1 to see this.

Monday Movie Review : Your Sister's Sister

Monday, September 24, 2012

Hello friends! Time for another movie review!! Today I am going to be talking to you about this Emily Blunt Comedy..

Your Sister’s Sister

Here's what the movie is about..

A year after his brother Tom's death, Jack (Mark Duplass) is still struggling emotionally. When he makes a scene at a memorial party, Tom's best friend Iris (Emily Blunt) offers up her family cabin on an island in the Pacific Northwest so Jack can seek catharsis in solitude. Once there, however, he runs into Iris' sister Hannah (Rosemarie Dewitt) who is reeling from the abrupt end of a seven-year relationship and finds solace in Tom's unexpected presence. A blurry evening of drinking concludes with an awkward sexual incident, made worse by Iris' sudden presence at the cabin the next morning. A twisted tale of ever-complicated relationships is set in motion with raw, hilarious and emotional performances from the all-star cast. -- (C) IFC

This was another charming Emily Blunt movie. I really enjoyed how laid back, calm and sweet movie this is. I think Emily Blunt is amazing in almost all of her movies and Mark Duplass grows on you after a while too. (Just like Jason Segal in 5 Year Engagement ) There is tons of dialog in this film.. and actually pretty much sucks you in the beginning of the film that lasts until the credits start to roll.

It also goes to show you don't need It certainly shows that not all GREAT  films don't need big budgets to capture a sweet movie. I love the setting of the movie.. in the woods and in the cabin. There is no substitution of the beauty of real nature.

Here's the trailer..

I am giving this movie..

Because it was a really really good movie. Its a PG - 13 so I suppose you could watch it with the kids running in and out.. I think its more for adults..and it would be a great movie for sisters to watch together! It really shows the bond between sisters and how one minute you could be cursing each other out and the next minute, having a cup of tea. Totally relatable.

This movie is perfect for  Movie Night!

Speaking of sisters today is my sisters 26th Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Laci!
I love you!

Movie Review : The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Thursday, September 20, 2012

As I have explained I have seen so many movies over the past week that I am busting at the seams to tell you about them all.

Tonight I want to go over

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Here's what the movie is about..

he Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group of British retirees who decide to "outsource" their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past. -- (C) Fox Searchlight

It was late when I watched this.. I wanted a colorful magical kind of movie.  It either watching - Jackson's Lorax movie, AGAIN or take a chance on this one. I personally love BOTH Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. I also like Tom Wilkinson.

At the beginning of the movie it pretty much goes into the lives of all the older people.. and why are retiring to India. Judi Dench ( face on the trailer ) tells her son that if he wants to keep up her.. read her blog... just long in and read her news! How awesome is that!? I love it! Another quote from this movie I love is when the two guys are talking about it.. one said - Its like Florida then - .. the other guy replied . -yea, but with more elephants. So as the movie progressed.. I found myself really enjoying this movie. The cast was amazing. I ended up really enjoying this movie. Most of them were grumpy in the beginning of their journey but each one of them finds their way in their new way of life.

Here's the trailer..

I am giving this movie

simply because I liked every part of the movie. Every part.

It made me dream about this for husby and I. How charming would it be to just go abroad to what would seem to be a cheaper way of life but so rich in other ways.
Very good movie that's worth watching.. BTW.. this is more of an adult flim.. teen boppers won't like this!
But its really good.

xoxo
