Monday Movie Review : Savages

Monday, November 19, 2012
Thankfully things have slowed down a little around here and I have had some time to enjoy some great movies.. I will probably do another review come Wednesday night or Thursday... while we are all laying around being full from Thanksgiving!

But today, I am going to go over..

Savages.

Here's what the movie is about..

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry-raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town...until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them. When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon-with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)-wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. -- (C) Universal

I was surprised about how well I enjoyed this movie. I like Blake Lively..and I thought the plot of the movie was pretty interesting. I will have to say in this movie.. Blake works, lives, and sleeps with both guys. They grow pot in California which puts them in the middle of  a drug war. Normally I would pretty much call out a women for being with 2 guys like this... but I was shocked.. shocked, I say.. at how NOT DIRTY their relationship felt on the screen. For some reason, I understood it.. love is love..and the 3 of them seemed to have a bond like no other. It was a modern day look at another way a relationship can work out. I found it kinda  beautiful

Then you move into the plot.. its kinda a drug lord kinda movie with Salma Hayek playing the vileness. She was beautiful and I think she did a great job. Blake is kidnapped and its a tale of 2 men going to the end of the earth to get her back. They did amazing jobs. I seriously didn't know either of the guys but they were pretty damn good actors. They were like night and day.. one gentle.. the other not so much and I kinda fell in love with both of them too.

The locations are beautiful in this movie and makes me want to RUN to the tropics.
Also John Travolta is in it.. as a corrupt FBI and hes as awesome as he always is.

The reviews have been mixed on this movie, but I actually really liked it. I actually watched it once by myself and then I watched it again with Scott. His review is- I thought it was pretty good! - ( simple man answer! )

Here's the trailer..

I am giving this movie..

I thought it was well done..Blake did a great job.. she's beautiful and sensitive..and the guys both were really good! It really grabbed our attention and the ending was pretty interesting. It plays out in 2 ways.. but the way it really ends is the best!

This is not a movie for the kids.. so make sure they are in bed or gone when you watch it!

Hope you are having a great Monday!
