Love the Home You Have 31 Day Challenge | Days 9-15 | Video

Monday, January 18, 2016

Hey everyone! Sorry about another late night post but here I am typing away at 12 am. My day hasn't even been busy. Instead, it was a lot of laying around with little being done. We all kinda had a lazy day. Plus my video editor was messing up and I had to do the whole uninstall/reinstall process which too a while. Anyway, enough rambling....I am back sharing days 9-15 in the Love the Home You have 31 day challenge. Also let me explain I went through updating my home-keeping notebook, I totally printed off 2015 calendars and even filled them in. What a dumb-ass thing to do. All that printer ink wasted! I didn't even realize it through the editing process. Sigh. Just know I fixed it! I am still getting confused about what year we are in. :) I still hope you enjoy the video.

Love the Home You Have 31 Day Challenge | Days 1 & 2 | Video

Saturday, January 2, 2016

Hello friends! I hope you Saturday evening is going well. I am back tonight starting off our new January Love the Home You Have Challenge. I fell in love with this charming book ( which you can find right here ) and for months now I have wanted to do the 31 day challenge in the back of the book. However, we had Thanksgiving in November and Christmas in December. So for a fresh year, month and day I thought January was the perfect time to challenge not only myself but you guys too in the daily tasks designed to help us love our homes more. It's no secret this house we are in hasn't really felt like home. And regardless if we are moving in the future or staying put....this challenge will hopefully help me to get rid of clutter, make the house cleaner and help me appreciate everything I do have. I plan on posting these videos every Saturday in January and also daily on instagram. I would love it if you followed along! Here's how the first couple of challenges went. Hope you enjoy!

My Easy, Cheap, & Effective Homemade Laundry Soap Recipe VIDEO

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Hello friends, I am back today with my updated homemade laundry soap. I have made it a few different ways in the past but this updated recipe is my favorite! Its super easy and cheap to make and is really effective in cleaning the laundry. If you want to see how I make it, everything you need to know is in the video! More pictures and full recipe below.

As I said, I have tried a lot of different methods. This was one of them which I grated ivory soap. It worked great and I liked the way it looked in the jar but I quickly grew tired of grating soap. Then new items were coming out like the Downy UnStopables that go into washer rather than the dryer. So it incorporated rather nice into the recipe. Also I am using the Fels Naptha soap that I found in Wamart for about $1 a bar. Last time, I couldn't find it and used the ivory. Both work well.

3 bars Fels Naptha, grated ($1x 3) ( or 6 bars of Ivory Soap )
1 box Borax  ($5  - 76 ounces)
1 box Washing Soda ($4  -  55 ounces)
2 cups of baking soda ($.50 cents)
1 container of OxyClean or Las Totally Awesome Oxygen Powder ( found at Dollar Tree $1 )
1-2 container Downy Unstopables  ($7 - 13.2 ounces)

To grate the Fels Naptha I decided to not use the grater and instead use my food processor. I found it easier to add a little bit of the Oxygen Powder to help the blades chop up the soap.
Use a large container ( even a garbage bag works ) to mix up the soap and rest of the ingredients. You need to really take your time and make sure its well incorporated.

Use two or three scoops per load ( depending on the size of your washer ) and don't worry if it doesn't suds up as much as other laundry soaps. It will suds a little but not a lot. Cleaning power of any soap does not depend on suds...so don't worry! Also this is perfectly safe for HE washers. The key is a fine grind! No big, bulky chunks…as HE machines use less water and don’t break down large chunks of soap.

I like to use the rubbermaid storage container to mix and store the laundry soap on the top shelf of our laundry room. But for convenience I keep a glass container on my dryer for easy access.

This recipe will last you a long long time. It really depends on the size of your family and how much laundry you do. For most people I think one batch will last a family of 4 at least 6 months. But again it depends on the size of your family and if you are measuring correctly. Its cheaper, it works just as well if not better than store bought laundry detergents and easy to make. I think giving these out to family and friends for holidays or whenever is a great way to share the love. My sister is a working college student and I just made her a batch that I will give her in a couple weeks. I would love to hear from you if you have a homemade laundry recipe that you love ...if you care to share! If you have any questions leave them below or on youtube! Stayed tuned for a quick laundry tip that has to do with softener sheets or the lack there of!

Home Management: My Spring Cleaning Tips! - VIDEO -

Monday, March 10, 2014

Hello friends! I hope you are having a great evening. I am back sharing some of my spring cleaning tips with you all in hopes it answers some of the questions I have been getting. Last year I did the Spring Cleaning Challenge which was basically zone cleaning. If you want to check those blog posts out you can can click here... they are all labeled under Household Tips.

Today I am just sharing some of my own personal tips to take you right through spring cleaning. Its not like it use to be. Really spring cleaning came during a time when a lot of people were using wood stoves and such creating a lot of suet and dust so every spring season they would clean it up. If we just keep up with our daily routines and weekly cleaning, spring cleaning should not be a huge task. I still need to record my morning and afternoon routine but I have have already shared my night time routine where I show how I get the house together every night before we go to bed. I think routines are KEY to keeping your home clean and organized. I have also already shared my cleaning routine for Home Zone 1. I will have zone 2 - The Kitchen - up in the coming weeks but just taking time to reduce clutter and pick up everyday, it will keep the big cleaning days to a minimum. Also if you are interested in making your own cleaning products, check out my video where I show you how to make 6 cleaning products with items you probably already have in your house. I even included my homemade eye makeup remover!

There are a lot of tips in the video below.. I hope you find them helpful!

Be sure to let us know in the comments if you have any spring cleaning tips! :

Home Management: My FULL Nightly Routine! - VIDEO -

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Hello everyone! I am here with my Nightly Routine. I decided to show you this routine first, opposed to my morning/afternoon routine because its more important. Mornings around here would be a complete mess without the nightly routine. I don't leave anything to chance. I have been through those mornings when I have had to search for a lost shoe or lost car keys. It just ruins my entire day when that happens. So in an effort to make my families life run smoother in the morning hours, I stick to this nightly routine that takes care of everything! Hope you enjoy!

Do you have a nightly routine!? I would love to hear from you!
