Mary's Magic Cake Recipe | VIDEO |

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Hello everyone! I am back with a to die for recipe from my grandma Mary. I am sure she didn't invent the recipe but she is the one who showed me how to make it. This cake is truly magical because with one batter, you get 3 very different layers to the cake. You have a more dense bottom, a custard middle and fluffy cake top. Its simply delicious. And the great thing about this cake is....it only has 7 ingredients and most people already have the items needed to make it in the pantry and frig. This is not too sweet and once you take a bit you see see how magical this cake really is. This cake is so soft....it melts into your mouth sending you into heaven with every bite. Its seriously that good! Its a great cake to make for any church or family function. Everything you need to know is in the video and the recipe in full is below! Also... I am going to be back next week with the chocolate version for all you chocolate lovers! :)

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

4 eggs (separate yolks from whites) at room temperature

1 tsp vanilla extract

3/4 cup sugar

1 stick of butter, melted

3/4 cup of all purpose flour

2 cups milk lukewarm

powdered sugar for dusting cake

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 F degrees.

Then grease a 8 inch x 8 inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray
Separate eggs and add the egg whites to a bowl and mix until egg whites are stiff. Set Aside

Beat the egg yolks with the sugar until light in color.

Add butter and vanilla extract and continue beating for another minute or two.

Slowly add the flour and mix.

Slowly start adding the milk and beat until everything is well mixed together.
* Remember this is a thin batter so don't worry!

Slowly fold in the beaten egg whites.- *It will look kinda lumpy when the egg white get folded in.

Pour batter into baking dish and bake for 40 to 70 minutes or until the top is lightly golden.

Every oven is different so check around the 40 minute mark but for me it took right at an hour.

Once done, let cool for a couple of hours. If in a hurry you can place it in the freezer but don't let it freeze.

Sprinkle some powdered sugar after cake has cooled and top with a berry if you wish.

Enjoy!

I hope you make this very simple magical cake that is simply one of the best treats ever. Be sure to come back and let me know how you liked it! Stay tuned for the chocolate version next week! :)
