So with today being officially the first day of SPRING, its a perfect day to start our Spring Clean Challenge. Its a really simple plan and you can just jump in from where you are. I do recommend that you have your house picked up and laundry caught up before you really start on any of the spring cleaning. Remove the clutter first. Last week, all I really wanted you to do is maintain your house as you normally do, work hard to catch up on your laundry and declutter for 15 minutes a night. From the emails, I know that many of you are caught up!
One of the biggest parts of spring cleaning is getting rid of clutter that you don't need.

So lets talk about Spring Cleaning. After many homes being closed up for winter, spring is the perfect time to air out your house and get it cleaned up for the next big season.. SUMMER.. around here, we have busy summers so spring cleaning is great to get the house all cleaned up so we can play. But in our house, there is a-l-w-a-y-s- cleaning to do.
So the challenge this week starts with
Area 1
Front Entrance, Front Porch ,
and Dining Room
First thing to do is take inventory of your cleaning supplies. I find gloves very helpful, I couldn't live without a feather duster, and disinfectant wipes. Get stocked up, because we have a lot of cleaning to do! A lot of times, I do buy my cleaning supplies at the dollar store where everything is $1 and it does save me a ton of money when I get it all there. The cleaning aisles of the stores are stocked full of supplies to help you clean. Find out what supplies you need and which ones you don't.
I would also recommend using a handy
timer so you don't get stuck too long. I never like to start a cleaning project that is longer than 1 hour of time.
When I lived in smaller houses, it was pretty easy for me to follow this system and get the house all sparkly. But now we are in a much bigger house, its going to take me some time.
For me this week,
The front porch will be very easy.. The entrance will take a while as will the dining room. Adapt the areas to your own homes. I will be doing either before or after pictures or videos of what I am busy doing. From now, till next Tuesday work on all the areas from this set.
Here are the detailed cleaning lists.
Really, each area should take give or take an hour.. and get your kids involved. Anything is better than nothing. I am a control freak so I do prefer to do most of the cleaning on my own!
Just grab your supplies and get started!
Here are a few tips
Tip 1:
If you are storing away your winter clothes, consider using large plastic storage containers that feature snap-on lids. These can be found in the house wares department at most stores and are very inexpensive. Storage containers are very important to keeping your clothes dust and discoloration free, which may otherwise be a problem if they are left hanging in the closet from one season to the next.
Tip 2:
When packing your clothes, roll them instead of folding. This not only eliminates creases and wrinkles, but also saves a lot of space. You will be able to pack a lot more clothes with this technique.
Tip 3:
Label your clothing containers as “Spring”, “Fall” and “Winter”. This will help you to easily locate your wardrobe inside the closet. I have a huge closet and I don't really have to separate my clothes.. But I do put winter coats away.. and bring out sweaters for spring!
If you have any clothing that you don’t plan to wear or simply have outgrown, consider donating them to a local goodwill or other nonprofit organization. Rather than tossing them out, your clothes can provide revenue for a worthy cause and help the less fortunate to be able to afford clothing that would otherwise be unattainable.
Tip 4:
If you are looking to clear out some knick-knacks or perhaps even some Holiday decorations in order to make room for new ones, think about putting them in the attic or in the garage. Having them in closets just takes up room that you could be using for everyday things.
Tip 5:
Break down your chore list so that the overall task will be easier. For the bigger outside jobs like pressure washing driveways and decks etc. hire a company to make the over job of spring cleaning easy. Then break down the inside room by room and break it down over time to make it easier. That's how I like doing it. Breaking it up over a few weeks to make it easy to do!
So there are no big rules to follow..I do think its best your house is fairly in order before staring spring cleaning. Tomorrow I plan on tackling at least the front porch and entry way.. and prob get started on the dining room. Again, I will either post pictures or video's of the progress I am making. I want to hear from you too! So keep those emails coming in!
