So last week, husby requested one of his favorite dinners..
Simple Chicken Fried Steak
This is one of his favorite meals of all time!
So I started with dicing some potatoes
for mashed potatoes then I started with
The green beans. Can green beans needs a little flavor..So I am dicing up part of an onion and
also chopped up some bacon to add.
Got those ready and cooking on the stove and then I started..
on the chicken fried steak. Its just cube steak coated in flour. I don't use egg or milk to coat the cube steak first because there is gravy over it too and I don't think you need an extra coat of heavy breading on it. One thin coat is enough!
In the mean time heat up some vegetable oil in a big skillet..
To check if the oil is hot enough..
just take the end of a wooden spoon, put it into the oil and if bubbles come up around the spoon.. its ready!
Then add your steaks.
Do not over crowd the skillet..
As the steak was done, I added them to a large casserole .
and kept it warm in the oven.
Then I got busy making the gravy..
Its super easy.. just add some flour to the left over oil.. Maybe add 1/4 of a cup.. give or take.. mix it up... it will be thick and you need to cook it for about 3 -5 minutes.. then whisk in about 2 cups of milk. bring to a soft boil. At this point, its the thickest it will be. Add more milk if needed.. and if its too thin you can add a little flour but try to not add too much. You will need to cook the gravy a little longer.. to cook off that flour taste. I like to season to taste with salt and pepper along with garlic powder.
And diner was served..
We like to serve it with sliced tomatoes..
Super good and husby was really happy!
