LET ME TELL YOU.....

THIS DINNER WAS A HIT!!!

LAST NIGHT WE ENJOYED

~ BEEF GYROS, SERVED WITH ONION RINGS AND PEARS ~

THIS IS MY IDEA OF WHAT A BEEF GYRO SHOULD BE..

YOU SHOULD START THIS AT LEAST 2 HRS BEFORE YOU WANT TO DINNER TO MARINADE THE BEEF..

THIS RECIPE MADE 6 GYROS



HERE ARE THE MAIN INGREDIENTS FOR WHAT WE HAD..

FLANK STEAK

YOGURT RANCH DRESSING

TOMATO

ONION

PITA

CAN OF PEARS

ONION RINGS



FOR GYRO BEEF I USED FLANK STEAK..

FOR THE MARINADE I AM USING JUST..

OLIVE OIL

OREGANO

SALT AND PEPPER



I WANTED LONG PIECES OF SO I TOOK THE FLANK STEAK CUT IT IN HALF


THEN SLICED IT UP IN LONG THIN PIECES



ONCE DONE I PUT THEM ON A RIMMED PLATE
( NORMALLY USE GALLON BAGGIES BUT WAS OUT!! )



POURED ABOUT 1/4 CUP OF OLIVE OIL OVER IT..



A BIG PALM FULL OF DRIED ORGANO



AND LOTS OF SALT AND PEPPER





AND MIX IT ALL UP



THEN COVER AND LET MARINADE FOR ATLEAST 2 HRS
IN THE REFRIGRATOR. LAST 20 MINUTES SIT IT OUT TO COME TO
ROOM TEMPATURE BEFORE COOKING..



ABOUT 30 MINUTES BEFORE I WANTED TO COOK THE BEEF I WENT AHEAD AND CUT UP THE TOPPINGS.

SHREADED LETTUCE, THINLY SLICED CUCUMBER AND SOME CHUNKY TOMATOES.



MOST GYRO SAUCE IS MADE WITH YOGURT AND ITS TASTE A LOT LIKE RANCH SO THIS BOLTHOUSE FARMS YOGURT RANCH DRESSING WAS PERFECT..FOUND IT IN THE PRODUCE DEPARTMENT..



THEN MIXED ABOUT A TABLESPOON OF DILL INTO THE DRESSING..



AND THE TOPPINGS WERE DONE..


I SERVED THIS WITH ONION RINGS WHICH WAS KINDA DIFFERENT...

BUT..



THESE WERE MADE WITH PANKO WHICH I LOVE!!!



JUST LAID THEM OUT AND IN THE OVEN THEY WENT..

SO MUCH BETTER TO BAKE THAN FRY..



I ALSO THINLY SLICED 1/2 ONION..



REALLY KEEP THEM THIN SO THEY WILL COOK UP FAST!



HEAT A COUPLE TABLESPOONS OF OIL OVER MED HEAT UNTIL THE PAN IS REALLY HOT..



ADD THE BEEF..

DISCARD THE MARINADE.

COOK BEEF FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES TOTAL AND REMOVE TO PLATE..


THEN ADD ANOTHER TABLESPOON OF OIL

ADD THE ONIONS AND COOK FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES..

SCRAPE THE POT TO GET ALL THE GOOD BEEF FLAVOR INTO THE ONIONS WHILE THEY ARE COOKING..


ONCE THE ONIONS ARE BROWNED ADD THE BEEF BACK TO THE POT..



THEN TAKE THE PITAS..AND SPRITZ THEM WITH WATER..



MAKE A LITTLE FOIL PACKAGE AND IN A WARM OVEN THEY GO..

I HAD THE OVEN ON FOR THE ONION RINGS BUT IF YOU ARE JUST MAKING GYROS A 350 OVEN FOR 5 OR 6  MINUTES WILL WORK FINE..



I CUT 6 MEDIUM PIECES OF FOIL FOR EACH GYRO..

EVERYONE CAN MAKE THEIR OWN BUT I MADE THEM ALL THIS TIME MYSELF..

EASIER ON THE GUYS..



I LAID SOME BEEF IN THE PITA



ADDED SOME SHREDDED LETTUCE



THEN ADD CUCUMBER, SAUCE AND TOMATO..



ONE DONE AND 5 MORE TO GO..



YUMMM!!



REALLY REALLY GOOD!



I CHILLED SOME YUMMY CAN VANILLA PEARS AND SAT THEM OUT

ALONG WITH THE ONION RINGS..

EVERYONE SERVED THEMSELVES..



AND DINNER WAS SERVED...

THE GUYS LOVED THIS...

I COULDNT BELIEVE HOW BIG OF A HIT THIS MEAL WOULD BE!

REALLY REALLY GOOD!

PERFECT FOR SUPERBOWL WEEKEND!!
