Wednesday Hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday Friends! Time for another Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce from over at From This Side of the Pond ....this is always such a fun linkup.. join in anytime! Hope you enjoy.

1. "Summer is like childhood. It's full of warm memories and gone too soon."~Kellie Elmore  Agree or disagree? Share something you loved about the summers of your childhood.

I totally agree! Summer always goes by fast if you don't live in a tropical area! Gosh...I had so many great summer memories growing up. The late even fire fly competitions were pretty amazing. All the kids around in the evenings would come together around our house and catch fireflies. It was always fun running around the back yard catching them with our hands, putting them in mason jars and adding up who caught how many. I always thought my brother caught more because he was taller! :)

And it might have not been the nicest thing to do but we cut little air holes in the tops of the jars and kept the glowing fireflies in our rooms for the night. It was like a natural organic nightlight!

2. Are you a fan of auto racing-NASCAR, Indy, Stock, Grand Prix, etc? Ever been to a race in person? Any desire to do this?  Do you know a lot about cars? Do you notice particular makes and models when you're out and about?

I lived in Indiana most of my life so I went to the Indy 500 a few times but it was so loud...just not my thing. I drive a little Volkswagen bug and it always seems like I see bugs everywhere. I think that's the way it goes when any of us get a new car....we start noticing the same kind of car driving around. :)

3. What's something you think is too serious to be joked about? Or do you think anything and everything is fair game?

I think if your job is a comedian then everything is fair game...otherwise use compassion and empathy before making a joke at someone other persons expense.

4. July 29th is National Lasagna Day. Are you a fan? Do you have a great recipe, and if so where did it come from? If given a choice would you choose a plate of lasagna or a plate of spaghetti?

I love lasagna and is one of my favorite ways to make it! I would probably pick spaghetti if the lasagna was not made with ground beef and cottage cheese. I am not a fan of ricotta or sausage in my lasagna.

5. What's a simple pleasure you'd miss if it were not a regular part of your life?

As I have gotten a little bit older, I have realized how much I enjoy the quiet day. I like having the door open that leads off our family room which also doubles as a first floor office for me. I love the sound of nature...the wind, the sound of it raining but one of my very favorite simple pleasures right now are the little song birds that live in the trees in our backyard. Everyday, I open that door when I get up and can't wait to hear what they are going to sing to me. Having a houseful of kitty cats pretty much rules out the idea of actually owning a bird but I would love to have one in the house that would sing to me all the time! However, I kinda feel torn about that because maybe it wouldn't sing me such beautiful hems if it was locked and confined in a cage. Maybe the free birds sing the loudest and the best because after all, they are free. Free to fly, free to sing, free to bath after a warm summer rain.. I will totally miss them when winter comes around. I also recently just began feeding them so maybe they are singing for their dinner now... who knows!

6. If you could be the CEO of any company, which would you choose?

I would have to go with Google. I know many many people love Apple but I personally think that Google is going to take over the world. They are doing things that are far beyond a lot of our imaginations. It would be a lot of work but I think it would be one amazing job. And just so you know, it was hard picking between Google and Nike but Google won!

7. August is just around the bend...bid farewell to July in exactly seven words.

Goodbye Summer...hello new 2014-15 school year!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Gosh, it seems like summer is going fast. I can still remember bitching about the cold weather and how I wanted summer so badly but it seems to be fading in a hurry. I always consider August a new beginning of sorts because its the start of a new school year for us. We have our oldest daughter who recently graduated from college but we still have 1 soon to be 7th grader and two soon to be 6th graders! We are fast approaching a very busy time of year for many of us. This week is no exception. I have been doing my best to get things a little more updated and organized before we start the new school year. We pick Jackson up Sunday. He spent the summer with his dad and now its time to come home and get serious again. Thankfully we in South Carolina start school a little later - August 18 - but we still have a lot of things to do including Dr and Dentist appointments, school shopping, school registration, meet the teacher and even a long weekend at Myrtle Beach before the first day of school! Its going to be crazy busy and I hope we just make it out alive!  Yesterday I posted my homemade laundry soap recipe that you should check out when you have time. Its cheap, easy and super effective in cleaning the laundry. So many people requested it and I am so happy its up! Also TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO GET ENTERED IN THE ERIN CONDREN GIVEWAY! So get entered for your chance for a $60 gift card! I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday. I'll be back later today with a recipe that will knock your socks off! Stay tuned! :)
