Here is what the movie is about..
When we first meet New York hedge-fund magnate Robert Miller (Richard Gere) on the eve of his 60th birthday, he appears the very portrait of success in American business and family life. But behind the gilded walls of his mansion, Miller is in over his head, desperately trying to complete the sale of his trading empire to a major bank before the depths of his fraud are revealed. Struggling to conceal his duplicity from loyal wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon) and brilliant daughter and heir-apparent Brooke (Brit Marling), Miller's also balancing an affair with French art-dealer Julie Cote (Laetetia Casta). Just as he's about to unload his troubled empire, an unexpected bloody error forces him to juggle family, business, and crime with the aid of Jimmy Grant (Nate Parker), a face from Miller's past. -- (C) Official Site

On Thursday of last week Susan Sarandon was on the view promoting this new movie and Friday of last week Richard Gere was on..talking more about this movie. The clips were amazing.. so I was shocked to see it on Time Warner On Demand on Monday.. but there it was.. so of course I watched it.. then I watched it again.. and then husby and I watched it again last night.
This movie is brilliant. Sure its another Wall Street movie but totally different from Margin Call that I reviewed here!! This movie takes you into the head of the man who is making bad decision after bad decision.. untimely committing fraud. Richard Geres performance is way too good to be over looked. I'm serious. I loved how good he was in this movie. He's a likable kind of guy at the same time he is screwing many people out of their money.
But that's not where the story starts or ends. There are plenty twists and turns that keeps you guessing what next is going to happen. Its explosive.. I kept thinking how much more is this man going to have to go through.. and he was the bad guy. Richard Gere did an amazing job at really showing the man behind the decisions. But another twist is his daughter.. played by Brit Marling really takes this movie in yet another direction that shows what loyalty really is.
For me the bedroom scene at the end when his wife - Susan Sarandon - turns the tables on him. Again.. his bad luck/bad karma comes around and gives him a big choice to make. I think if the daughter would not have been effected.. the wife would have went along to get along. But she proves to be one of the strongest characters in the movie. But even during that tense scene.. Richard was amazing. The man can clearly act.. and he played this part brilliantly.

Of course, I am giving this movie..
because it was just that good. I think this could be one of the best performances of Richard Gere. He was so good and so convincing. It was hard.. he was the villain but in the end.. I felt sorry for him. I loved watching this movie.. if you get the chance to see it.. put the kids to bed and sit back for a great movie!
Don't miss out on this one!
