Monday Movie Review : Bernie

Monday, August 27, 2012

Husby and I sat back to watch this movie that we had no idea about. To be honest, I am a huge Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey fan and become of them, I wanted to see the movie. I have never really liked Jack Black though. I think the only movie I liked of his was The Holiday. We sat back and relaxed while this movie played out.

Here's what its about.

In the tiny, rural town of Carthage, TX, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede was one of the town's most beloved residents. He taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Everyone loved and appreciated Bernie, so it came as no surprise when he befriended Marjorie Nugent, an affluent widow who was as well known for her sour attitude as her fortune. Bernie frequently traveled with Marjorie and even managed her banking affairs. Marjorie quickly became fully dependent on Bernie and his generosity and Bernie struggled to meet her increasing demands. Bernie continued to handle her affairs, and the townspeople went months without seeing Marjorie. The people of Carthage were shocked when it was reported that Marjorie Nugent had been dead for some time, and Bernie Tiede was being charged with the murder. -- (C) Official Site

Neither of us knew what it was about when we played it. We just knew who was in it. I was a little nervous but the movie was actually pretty damn good! I loved Bernie and Jack Black did a GREAT job being such a lovable guy. I actually think this could be one of the best roles I ever saw Jack Black in. However I think I got more laughs out of Matthew McConaughey character.

This was one of the funnest parts..

Keep in mind he says - SUSPECTED!! -

I thought it was so funny and he does a great job playing that part!! The part wouldn't have been right for anyone else!

Heres a trailer of the full movie!

I am giving this movie

because I think its a good movie but not a great movie. We got a lot of laughs out of this film.. we really did! I wish the ending could have been a little different but they even made the bad seem amusing!

Its not too bad so it could be watched with the kids running in and out.. I think its a great Movie for a Saturday night in!

Happy Monday!

  1. Thanks for the review! I honestly have heard nothing about this movie, and had no idea it existed until I found it with my Blockbuster @Home package. I'm a big fan of Jack Black and Matthew McConaughey, so I was interested in seeing what others thought about it before I added it to my queue. Your review definitely sounds like it's worth a look, so I'm going to add it right now. Also thanks for including the trailer! It looks great, but I think I’m more interested in knowing how many of my friends or coworkers at Dish knew about this film. Do you know if it even went to theaters?
