Real Techniques Brushes. REVIEW & VIDEO

Wednesday, January 11, 2012
I am a make up brush JUNKIE.. I seriously have an addiction to them. They just make me happy... I also love youtube. Chances are if you have watched any type of beauty tutorials you know of the sisters from Pixiwoo. Amazing.. Amazing.. make up artist. I was super excited when I found out that one of the sisters - Sam Chapman - was coming out with a line of her own make up brushes. I think as soon as the basically hit the market, they were selling out. It took forever for me to get these brushes. They are sold exclusivity at ULTRA.  Every time I went into my local store.. sold out.. Every time I went online.. sold out.. But finally I got some!! Not all from the collection but a lot of them!

If purchased at Ulta or ulta.com, all 19 brushes will set you back $106.90 before tax. The sets are $15.99, and no individual brush costs more than $10. Ulta frequently does coupons and discounts, and the Real Techniques brushes are eligible for most coupons. To put it in perspective, that $106.90 can get you anywhere from 2 to maybe 5 MAC or NARS brushes.

Here they are...

These are all brushes from the Real Technique line. All gifts from my beautiful husband.

So lets get started!!

This is the

Real Techniques Travel Essentials Brushes & Case

$15.99 ULTRA

As you can see 3 full size brushes come in this kit..

Back of box

Here is

Samantha Chapman.. designer of the line..

You can see that

this case holds the brushes nicely

All brushes from this line are synthetic brushes. Synthetic brushes also tend to have fewer issues with shedding, and can go from creams to powders without ruining the brush or the product. The bristles are less prone to staining and are easier to clean. Antibacterial soap and alcohols (present in some commercial brush cleaners) will strip natural brushes, but synthetic ones aren’t bothered, which is a huge bonus for those with acne or clog-prone skin. And they are cruelty free!! This goes for ALL the brushes from this line.

Also these brushes are super super soft. I have been using all the brushes on this post for a month or so have had to wash them already a few times. Washing synthetic brushes does take patience In my experience, you have to be very careful to rinse all of the soap out of the bristles or they can get sticky. Synthetic brushes, especially dense ones, take FOREVER to dry. These brushes surprised me--they dried in less than 12 hours, so that’s also a plus.

There are 3 sets that have convertible cases, which can fold over and sit up like an easel.

This is a neat little gimmick.. I like using the cases to hold my brushes .

I am not too fond of just tossing this case in your purse because the one thing I would want in a case is for it to close up completely.. but these don't. There is still a possibility of getting your brushes dirty or damaged with this case.

But like I said.. Its great for storing your brushes on your vanity.

Also.. Each case has elastic straps sized for each brush, and two larger loops for extra brushes.

They are light brushes with  aluminum handles. The “base” brushes are yellow, the eye brushes are purple, and the “finishing” brushes are pink.

These brushes are very good quality and excellent value for money. Beginners could get along with getting a Starter Set for eyes and the Core Collection set for the face, and be ready to practice with good tools without having made a huge investment. I have yet to get the Core Collection but I will have them within the coming weeks. . I never had any brush pieces break off or fall off, the handles feel sturdy and comfortable in my hand. They aren’t too heavy or slippery. The brush heads all feel soft, do what they say they will do, and I am happy they are all synthetic too!Not only do they feel light and rest nicely on my hand, they are color-coded to correspond to the key steps of makeup application. Orange is for creating a flawless base, purple is for enhancing the eyes and pink is for adding the perfect finish. You can also find the name of each brush printed on the back of the handle, making them perfect for newbies as well..

Also.. Samantha Chapman also offers tutorial videos online on how to use each brush or how to create gorgeous makeup looks!

I plan on building up my Real Techniques collection because

I am in LOVE!!

Here's my video review!!

So if any of you guys have tried these.. I would LOVE to hear from you!!
