Happy Thursday!! Today's Theme Thursday is all about..
Valentine’s Day!
I have never been one of those people who really cared much about Valentines Day. In my family, we use to just give candy and cards to each other and went on about our days. I still remember my grandfather getting up early to make sure we all had our
boxes of candy and cards before we started our days. He was always so happy handing the candy out! So just like my grandfather did with me.. I do with my kids. I get up.. give them their candy and cards and let them know first thing how much I love and adore them. However.. I do that everyday...except without the candy and cards!
Last year.. I made a big Valentine Dinner..
And even took a quick video of it!
For our Valentine Dinner last year I made..
steaks and a few sides..
Husby got me candy and roses of course!!
Its pretty much the same thing year after year around here for this holiday of love! Candy, Cards, and Flowers!!! Sometimes we eat out.. sometimes we eat in.. but we always just try to focus on showing each other a little more love and kindness on this special day!
Do you have any idea on the history of Valentines Day!?
When did it all start?
There are various theories on the origin of Valentine's Day, but the most popular dates back to the time of the Roman Empire during the reign of Claudius II, 270 AD. Claudius didn't want men to marry during wartime because he believed single men made better soldiers. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret wedding ceremonies. For this, Valentine was jailed and then executed by order of the Emperor on February 14. According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today.
