I really like an organized house. I have trouble when things are a mess. If the house is all cluttered and messy then so is my brain. So with Jackson here this school year, we are giving our
Jaggers Family CommandCenter
a face lift. This by no means is done. I doubt it will be totally up and rolling till the end of the first week of school. I am going to be adding some command hooks at the bottom so he can hang is backpack on it along with another hook for a jacket. I am also putting a little shoe rack at the bottom so we never have to hunt for his shoes in the morning. They stay in the basket now with all of ours but I don't want to have to dig through a pile of shoes in the morning either so adding that to this area.
I will also be adding his household school calender, his actual school calender of events, and also his morning, after school, evening and weekend chores list.
The calender on the board is the main household schedule and the plastic board on the wall is just for Jackson. Once school starts it will be filled up much more.
I also have our menu up here to. Jackson is a very picky eater and it really does make a difference if he knows ahead of time what he will be eating.
I am using this form that I got off of the project girl because I really love the layout. You can see that it has it broken down by Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. This really helps me shop. Again, I hate not being prepared for the week ahead. HATE IT! However, there have been many times when we changed up the menu and maybe went out to dinner, didn't cook at all.. etc.. and when that happens, I just circle the meal on the calender that we missed and use it later in another week. If I have already shopped for the meal then I also know that I have everything built up for that meal in the freezer and pantry.
The best way to plan your meals is to do it each Sunday afternoon or evening after you see what's on sale. While you will save the most money that way, I still find myself planning ahead with the meals.
Right now the meals are planned out for 2 full weeks and I am working on week of August 27 - Sept 8.
I am still leaving the lunch open for Jackson the first week of school. I am still planning these meals and I plan on doing a big post about it later. Then I will add them on the menu itself.
Another nice feature of this menu planner is at the bottom there is room for you to list what groceries you need to get. I don't use this so much yet but I do use the extra space to write a recipe down that I want to try that week or other kitchen notes.
I know this is going to be a busy year around here and staying organized is the only way we are going to make it through it! I hope this post inspires you to get a area in your house that can be your command center for the busy school year. Clearly if the other 2 little kids were here this area would be much much bigger.
I have more school year organizational posts coming up, so be sure to come back! And once I get this area done I will be sure to post the pictures!
Remember its never too late to get organized!
Happy Wednesday!
